about your direction, to the particulars of the piece you are making.
The Drop-in Clinic is for expereinced artists engaged in creating
a body of work or working towards that goal. This class is not for beginners.
It is for practicing artists looking to work and grow with a community of other
artists

Dickson Schneider is an artist and professor. He has taught at California State University East Bay for 15 years - Painting, Drawing, Art History, seminars on contemporary art, over 25 different classes. He is an accomplished artist in many different media, including Oils, Acrylics, and Egg Tempera. He also works in video and digital art. One of his activities is visiting the art world in person. In the past five years he has been to New York, Miami, Los Angeles, Berlin, Munich, Portland, Seattle (and more) visiting the particular art scenes there. This has given him a first hand look at the contemporary art world and that expereince has informed his teaching.
*Please note. The drop in “clinic” is for artists (specifically painters) who
have already established a body of work and are looking for meaningful critique
and direction. This class will not address the marketing and sales of artwork,
nor will it address professional practices beyond the fundamental importance
and decisions taken in making painting

For anyone who wishes an introduction to the rich tradition of painting. The
class is taught in oil paint because it's long open working time is more friendly
for a novice painter. This class works through a series of assignments to give
the student a broad introduction to the possibilities of paint as a medium.
The assigments cover color mixing, direct painting, indirect painting
(using scumbling and glazing in layers - an 'old master' technique),
painting with very thick paint (impasto), and a representational portrait.
There is no prerequisite for this class and an absolute beginner can
take and thoroughly enjoy this class. This class is also self-paced.
