2nd Friday of every month
Beginning Friday June 12, 2009
6:00.pm. - 10:00 p.m.
Oakland/Alameda Estuary and Alameda Island
It’s Summer in the East Bay and the galleries and restaurants that make Alameda and Jingletown a lively and cosmopolitan destination welcome you to the Estuary Art Attack. Alongside the beat of musicians and DJ’s, and the tastes and scents of Alameda’s
eclectic restaurant and bar scene, we want to showcase art. The
irreverent, the provocative and the downright beautiful and sensual
objects and images that the gallery spaces of the island are committed
to exhibiting form the core of this event.
Make time on a balmy summers’ evening to discover the creative life of the area
by taking in some of the most exciting, beautiful and challenging contemporary
art from Northern California and beyond, and stop by the listed restaurants for
special deals on a wide variety of cuisines. All of the galleries and participating
restaurants/alternative spaces are listed on our map, so it’s easy and convenient
to find us, and we can be found on the web by visiting the sites of participating
galleries (listed below). The Art Attack will be held every second Friday, beginning
on June 12th, and running from 6:00pm until 9:00pm. The route will snake from
Jingletown, across the Park Street (23rd street) Bridge in Alameda, spread out
along Blanding Avenue, and wind it’s way down the length of Par
Street and across the island to Webster. Every month participating
galleries will have a new exhibition on display, so make sure to
check individual listings. Galleries included on the Estuary Art
Attack are:
Rhythmix Cultural Works, The Institute of Mosaic Art, Frank Bette Art Center, Autobody Fine Art, Lucky JuJu, Spritzers Gallery, Bridgehead Studio, 420 Gallery, Jay Bridgland Studio. A full description of these venues is listed below, but please check their individual websites regularly for rotating exhibition listings.
The Estuary Art Attack is partnering with local restaurants, bars, clubs and coffee/tea houses in the area that open themselves up to local art and artists by featuring changing exhibitions and a creative dining experience. We hope that the public will start their Estuary Art Attack experience by grabbing something delicious to eat and end it by having dinner, or a cocktail at one of the many art-ful clubs, tea/coffee houses, bars and restaurants along the route. A complete list of restaurants will be available by May 1st.
The Estuary Art Attack promises to redefine Alameda and Jingletown as an East Bay destination for the bohemian, multicultural and esoteric arts.
